Most Expressive Award goes to Silas

Si is 3 1/2 years old.  He is just starting that super emotional phase my little boys go through between age 3-4.  They have feelings.  Lots of feelings.  Jude around this age was a total tropical storm, changing moods with the wind and so I’m more prepared for the Silas’ weirdness.  Si’s temperament is usually pretty do-dee-do happy, but these days he’s experimenting with having very strong reactions that he can pretty much control.  He likes having feeling options and he uses them to get things he wants.

Today he told me all about how he loves me “just a little bit” and then listed all the things he loves more than me (including Houdini, the other kids, Hush, apples, and lanterns) all the while glaring at me with his little scrunched up nose.  When I tell him “Ok, I guess that means you don’t get to come on a fun activity” all of the sudden he busts out with, “I nice now, Mama!  Look at my happy face!”

I find it rather manipulative and tricky.  This series of four photos was taken within about ten seconds.

So if you see Silas swinging between raging and sweet as can be know that he is doing a feelings show and if you wait a few minutes you’ll get to see a whole other side of Silas.  Kid thinks he rules the roost, but we’re wise to him.
